        Sturdy brick and timber mill buildings that once were home to textile, shoe and electronic companies are now entering a new era of reuse by a progressive generation of entrepreneurs. Signs of the renaissance of new technologies and the adaptive reuse of architecturally significant mill spaces are everywhere. Examples include:

• The Massachusetts Museum of Contemporary Arts is a multi-disciplinary cultural center being developed in a 780,000 square foot former electronics manufacturing plant in North Adams’ central business district.
• The Contemporary Artists Center is located in a 140,000 square foot mill. A Washington D.C. artist has renovated the building for use as a studio facility that attracts artists and scholars from all over the world. The building also provides artist studios, gallery space and space for small entrepreneurial businesses.
